In this Special Edition Dominik and Zuher were traveling again. In cooperation with the Heinrich Boell Foundation Middle East, the two took a trip to Beirut to report something about the queer community there.
Beirut is, after all, the city in the Arabic-speaking region that has the most vibrant queer scene, with many queer-oriented spaces. However, there are still many hurdles and problems imposed on the queer community: the interpretation of homosexual acts is still criminalized, which can put especially gay men in danger. Another traumatic event was the explosion at the port of Beirut in 2021, which destroyed many queer spaces. In #39 of the BBQ Podcast, Zuher and Dominik wanted to find out what it's like to live in a country that means freedom and problems at the same time for a marginalized community from their three guests* who they interviewed on the ground in Beirut: Sarah Kaskas who is the owner of the queer-friendly bar "Tota" and a filmmaker, Leah Zreik, trans* activist and yoga teacher, and Hoedy, drag queen and organizer of ballroom events. Disclaimer: BBQ ist ab August 2023 ein Podcast von COSMO. Damit aber keine der alten Folgen verloren gehen, sind sie hier weiter im Feed verfügbar.
