1973 erschienen auch in den USA bedeutende Platten von bekannten Acts wie Elvis Presley, The Eagles, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Stevie Wonder… Es war aber auch das Jahr, in dem einige der heute großen Namen der Rock- und Popwelt frisch ins Musikgeschäft einstiegen oder mit Projekten musikalisches Neuland betraten: Lynyrd Skynyrd definierten mit ihrem Debüt das Genre "Southern Rock", Queen gab einen Vorgeschmack auf kommende pompöse Rockhymnen, Jazzdrummer Billy Cobham lud einen Rockgitarristen ein mit ihm zu fusionieren, 10cc kombinierten humorvoll blitzgescheite Pop- und Rockkompositionen mit sarkastischen Texten und Tom Waits verherrlichte und veräppelte gleichzeitig den Sinatra-Lounge-Sound.
